More Than Sound: Why My Practice Is Changing Its Name

Sound Therapy North East is evolving into The Nervous System Practice. Here's why.

When I first started Sound Therapy North East, the name reflected the method I was using. But over time, I've realised that it doesn't fully explain what I'm actually working with.

Sound is an important part of my work, but it isn't the whole story.

At the heart of Bio-Tuning® is the nervous system: how it responds to the demands of everyday life, how it moves between different states and how we can support its ability to adapt.

That's why Sound Therapy North East is becoming The Nervous System Practice.

More than relaxation

When people hear 'sound therapy', they often think of sound baths, singing bowls or gongs. While these have their place, Bio-Tuning® is a very different approach.

It combines personalised sound frequencies, vibration, brainwave entrainment and sophisticated technology that integrates real-time heart rate variability (HRV) monitoring with a specialised neuroacoustic system.

Together, these allow me to observe physiological responses as different frequencies are introduced and identify a personalised tone to use within a bespoke listening programme.

It's not simply about helping someone feel relaxed. The focus is on supporting the nervous system's capacity for balance and adaptability.

Balance doesn't mean being calm all the time.

Our nervous system needs to respond to challenges, become alert and focused when necessary, and move towards rest and recovery when those demands have passed.

It's this ability to move between different states that interests me most.

Making the invisible visible

One of the things I value most about Bio-Tuning® is being able to make aspects of our internal responses more visible.

We can be getting on with life, working, looking after others and managing everything expected of us, without necessarily recognising how much pressure we're carrying.

Through the integrated Bio-Tuning® system, I can observe patterns associated with autonomic nervous system activity while someone experiences their personalised sound frequencies.

It's another way of exploring what's happening beneath the surface, alongside how someone actually feels.

And sometimes that information can be quite revealing.

Why The Nervous System Practice?

The name Sound Therapy North East has served me well, but I've increasingly felt that it describes the tool rather than the purpose of my work.

Bio-Tuning® has always been about supporting nervous system balance. That hasn't changed.

What has become clearer is how I want to communicate that work, particularly as conversations around stress, sleep, recovery and nervous system health become increasingly relevant to everyday life.

The Nervous System Practice simply feels like a more accurate reflection of what I've been doing all along.

For existing clients, nothing about the Bio-Tuning® approach is changing. I'm still offering the same personalised sessions, using the same technology and giving the same individual attention to each person I work with.

For now, you'll still see Sound Therapy North East while I prepare for the transition.

But over the coming months, you'll gradually start seeing a new name.

The Nervous System Practice.

A name that puts the focus where it has always been: on the nervous system, its remarkable capacity to adapt, and how we can support it.
